  • Migrant Education's Regional Advisory Council selected the Regional 2017 migrant parent of the year, the Alumnus of the year, honor student, and the logo of the year on October 12th. Migrant students submitted their logo drawings and parents selected a parent, an alumnus and an honor student to represent them at the 16th Annual Parent Conference held on Saturday, November 5th, 2016. The winners will also be representing the Migrant Education Program at the 38th Statewide Annual Parent Conference on March 10-12, 2017 in Los Angeles, CA.

  • Recently Amelia Rosas-Carlos, coordinator with ICOE’s Migrant Education sat down with Gil Rebollar, host of Small Town News Podcast, to discuss the Migrant Education Program here in Imperial County.  Over 7,000 students here locally receive services from the Migrant Ed. Program.

  • MANA de Imperial Valley, a National Latina Organization will recognize three honorees during the 2016 Las Primeras Awards Gala and Scholarship Fundraiser in Imperial Valley.  Each year MANA de Imperial Valley honors Latina women from Imperial County who embody the values and philosophy of the organization of empowering Latinas through leadership development, community service and advocacy. The honorees are nominated by community members.

  • IMPERIAL — Parents learned the joy of navigating the journey to engage with children who have developmental disabilities by plotting through the system of services to raise a child with special needs more effectively.

  • The Consulate of Mexico in Calexico and El Centro, CA bestowed one of its highest honors to Dr. Sandra Kofford; the prestigious National Ohtli Award. The Ohtli Award recognizes Mexican, Mexican-American, or Latino leaders whose efforts have contributed significantly to the empowerment of Mexican communities abroad. Ohtli is a Náhuatl word that means "pathway" in English, or "camino" in Spanish.

  • El Centro – The Imperial County Office of Education is hosting a community event to showcase The Kinsey African-American Art and History Collection on Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at 6pm in the SHS Jimmie Cannon Theater.  Both Mr. Bernard Kinsey and his wife Shirley will be in attendance and will speak on the topic of where art and history intersect.
