Foundation for Education Awards 35 Scholarships
El Centro, CA – The Imperial County Office of Education (ICOE) Foundation for Education has awarded $17,500 in scholarships to 35 deserving high school graduates from across the county. Each student will receive a $500 scholarship to help offset the costs of tuition, books, and other expenses as they transition to higher education.
The Foundation for Education scholarship program is dedicated to increasing college access and success for Imperial County's students. This year's recipients represent nine local high schools: Aurora High School, Brawley Union High School, Calexico High School, Holtville High School, Imperial High School, Southwest High School, Valley Academy, San Pasqual Valley High School, and Imperial Pathways Charter School -ICOE’s drop-out recovery program for individuals 17 and over who wish to obtain their high school diploma.
“Congratulations to each of our 35 scholarship recipients,” said Dr. Todd Finnell, County Superintendent of Schools and President of the Foundation for Education. “We were incredibly moved by their personal stories and inspired by their dedication and resilience. This scholarship is a celebration of their journey and a recognition of the incredible potential each of these students holds.”
Since its launch in the 2019-2020 academic year, the Foundation's scholarship program has grown steadily, awarding over $90,000 to local students. The program is a core part of the Foundation's mission to increase college access and success for students in Imperial County. “We are grateful for the continued support and generous contributions from our community. The Foundation is committed to empowering local students to pursue their dreams,” added Dr. Finnell. “As they embark on their college adventure, we wish the Foundation for Education scholarship recipients a future filled with discovery, growth, and success. We are excited to see the amazing things they will accomplish.”
The students were formally recognized during the ICOE Board of Education meeting on June 9, 2025.
