The Imperial County Office of Education’s District Fiscal Services (DFS) provides payroll and retirement services to local school districts, a community college, charter schools, and the County Office itself.
The DFS payroll processing unit manages direct deposits, wage garnishments, salary adjustments, and tax remittances, while ensuring compliance with payroll laws. Retirement processing is handled by a specialized unit responsible for two retirement systems: CalPERS, which serves classified employees, and CalSTRS, which supports certificated employees. This unit facilitates retirement reporting, manages legislative updates, corrects service credits, and oversees retirement forms and audits. Additional support includes monitoring membership qualifications, handling the purchase and redeposit of retirement service credits, and managing exemptions from post-retirement work restrictions.
DFS emphasizes service excellence by offering training workshops on payroll and retirement processes, along with updates on compliance practices, ensuring the needs of employees and partner organizations are met.
